From Obama's beige suit to Trump's excesses: "I would give anything to go back to the time when the most serious offense was a lack of dress."

What bothers me most is the blatant hypocrisy that, in the era of Donald Trump, is on display daily. A crass hypocrisy, perhaps the worst example of which in my entire adult life was the way Republicans cloaked themselves in mock outrage in response to a trivial choice of clothing.
The drama unfolded in late August 2014, when Barack Obama, then President of the United States, addressed the nation from the White House. He addressed the intricacies of the Syrian crisis, from the deteriorating situation on the ground to the ramping up of the US military response to curb the threat posed by the Islamic State (IS) organization and its opportunistic proclamation of a caliphate in the region. But during this press conference, Obama was wearing a beige suit . In my opinion, he looked very stylish in this no-nonsense, well-cut, and visually pleasing suit.
At the time, ISIS was rapidly gaining ground in Syria after capturing Mosul, Iraq's second-most populous city, in June. Driven by an insatiable thirst for conquest, it pushed its advance mercilessly, and many local minorities risked being forced into polygamous unions, enslaved, or even victims of genocide.
